Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) is present in all the cells of the body and is a co-factor in the functions of the mitochondria for production of energy. It regulates a large number of cellular processes including its role in cellular energy productions and metabolism, and in the cells’ response to physiological stress as from virus invasion.

What Is NAD+ Used For?

NAD+ is utilized in various bodily functions and requires cellular production from precursors such as tryptophan, and vitamin B3 (nicotinic acid, nicotinamide riboside or nicotinamide mononucleotide) as it cannot be obtained from food.

Studies have demonstrated that aging and chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, heart failure, and alcoholism, decrease the levels of NAD+ in cells. These cells are unable to fully replenish NAD+, resulting in ongoing low levels, unless an external source is utilized for replacement.
